Kallippos of Aten
Kallippos from Athens (Greek: Κάλλιππος) - an ancient Greek athlete, Olympian, winner of the pentathlon at the 112 Olympic Games (332 BC). He secured the victory by bribing his opponents beforehand.
According to the information provided by Pausanius (Journey of Hellada V 21.5) for bribery, the Hellanodikas punished Kallippos and the fines he paid for. However, the Athenians refused to pay the penalty and sent Hyperedes to speak to Olympia to ask for pardon. When the legation was not successful, they announced the boycott of the Olympic Games. Only when admonished by the oracle in Delphi, which announced the abstention from the prophecy until the fine was paid, the Athenians gave the money to the Elejczyk for which six statues of Zeus were later issued.
