John Bernard Caldwell


John Bernard Caldwell (born September 26, 1926) - British engineer, lecturer at Newcastle University, specialist in naval architecture and history of technology. Curriculum vitae

Higher engineering studies (Building Engineering) graduated from Liverpool University, doctorate (Doctor of Philosophy) at Bristol University. In 1953-1955 he worked at Bristol University as a research worker in the field of civil engineering, in 1955-1959 senior scientific officer at the Royal Naval Science Service. In the years 1960-1966 he was an assistant professor in mechanics used in the Radio Network Controller in Greenwich. In the years 1962-1963 he was a visiting professor in naval architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States of America. In the years 1966-1983 he was the chairman of the Department of Marine Architecture at the School of Marine Science and Technology - Newcastle University in London, where in 1983-1986 he became dean of the Faculty of Engineering, from 1986 he was the director of the School of Marine Technology. He was on the board of National Maritime Institute Ltd., a board member of Marine Technology Ltd. and a lecturer at Majuba College at Newcastle Technology Center in Newcastle.

In the years 1976-1978 and from March to July 1992 he was the director of the North East Coast Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders. Doctor honoris causa of the Gdańsk University of Technology in 1985. He wrote articles on shipbuilding architecture, history of construction technology in the 20th century. It belongs to the Royal Academy of Engineering in London.
