Functional structure - one of the types of organizational structure characterized by the presence of functional departments led by specialists and the broken rule of unity of the order.
In the functional structure of a given member of an organization, an employee is subject to more than one manager. In case of problems when performing tasks, you may contact the appropriate specialist. Such structures were first introduced by Frederick Taylor Winslow. One of the drawbacks of this type of organizational structure is the difficulty of division of tasks at managerial level, because in the case of large specializations, it is often difficult to determine which manager's skills are needed to direct the team performing the tasks. The use of this type of structure requires a great deal of trust between the managers, because otherwise it can lead to conflicts.
