The resource charitativi

Subsidium charitativum (voluntary charity work) - a voluntary, not too high benefit paid on occasional by tax-exempt clergy, in the event of an extraordinary tax bill passed by the Diet. The tax was set by the Primate Jan Wężyk at the synagogue in Piotrków in 1621 as a support for the king preparing for the battle against Turkey. The Subsidium charitativum was the equivalent of the hiberny tax paid to maintain the army in winter by the people of royal property. The name of mercy support was to emphasize that church property is free from paying normal taxes. After the abolition of hibernation in 1775, the population of the clergy was charged with the annual payment of subsidium charitativum at a fixed amount. This tax was levied even during the Duchy of Warsaw and the Kingdom of Poland, but it was a land tax. Bibliography
