nickel-plating
Nickel plating - covering metal products with a layer of nickel. Nickel plating is used for anti-corrosion, decorative and technological purposes as a substrate for other galvanic coatings.
Nickel plating is most often made on steel items, and the most durable coatings are achieved by covering the steel first with a thicker copper layer, as an intermediate layer with better adhesion to both steel and nickel, and then a thinner nickel layer. In coatings of the highest quality, such a layer system serves as a substrate for the chromium layer.
Nickel coatings are characterized by a slightly worse appearance than chromium coatings (inferior gloss, the possibility of slight discoloration), less resistance to corrosion and lower mechanical strength, but they are cheaper.
