Luther Church in Szczecin

The building of the former parish

Lutherkirche (German Lutherkirche) - a now-defunct Evangelical church, formerly at ulica Robotniczej 4 in Szczecin (the Żelechowa housing estate).

A neo-Gothic brick church situated on a hill was built in 1885-1886. It was a three-aisled building with a small presbytery crowned with a square tower with a slender, conical helmet. Inside the church there were sculptures depicting Saints Peter and Paul, Martin Luther and Jan Bugenhagen, and in the windows, stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Luther.

The church was severely damaged during the allied raids in May and August 1944. After the war, the parish priest of the Żelechów parish priest Józef Pochoda-Rogowski tried to rebuild the church with the aim of adapting it to the needs of the Roman Catholic community, but the city authorities decided to take it down, which took place in 1954.

A neo-Gothic parish building erected in 1918 has been preserved. Robotniczej 5-6.
