Iosafat Gundius
Iosafat Ivanovich Gundius (born 20 September 1844, died 27 October 1880 in Yalta) is a Russian architect of Polish origin.
After completing a gymnasium in Bialystok in 1859, he went to St. Petersburg and studied at the Petersberg Institute of Technology at the Faculty of Architecture. He graduated with honors in 1865, earning the title of engineer-class X architect. From 1866 he lived in Odessa, where he worked in the baron von Ungern-Sternberg's construction office. He was involved in the design of the railway line at Rozdilna-Tiraspol, Tiraspol-Chisinau, Chisinau-Jassa. He conducted research on the conditions for the construction of the Fastowska Railroad, since 1875 he was the chief director of railway infrastructure repair services. Three years later, he was appointed Chief Engineer of the South West Railway Line. In addition to the state service, he ran a private architectural practice. He died in Yalta in 1880.
