Bruno de Finetti


Bruno de Finetti (born 1906, died 1985) - an Italian mathematician, statistics and philosopher of science, an actuary by profession. He conducted research in the field of probability theory, in particular subjective probability. He was a member of the American Statistical Association.

His greatest achievement in the field of statistics is the claim known as the Nagumo-Kolmogorov-de Finetti theorem. He is also known for the controversial statement that "Probability does not exist", which is an expression of skepticism about the existence of a probability in the objective sense.
