Andrzej Dyrcz


Andrzej Dyrcz (born 9 January 1933 in Cieszyn) - Polish ecologist and ornithologist, professor of natural sciences, professor and in the years 1975-2003 head of the Department of Bird Ecology at the University of Wroclaw. Curriculum vitae

In the years 1950-1953 he studied biology at the Jagiellonian University, then at the University of Wrocław, where he obtained a master's degree in 1955. He also obtained a doctorate (1960) and a postdoctoral degree (1969) at the University of Wrocław. In 1982 he was appointed an associate professor, and in 1992 - a full professor of natural sciences. In the years 1975-1976 he completed a scientific internship at the Schweizerische Vogelwarte in Sempach. He conducted ornithological research in Panama (Smithsonian Institution scholarships, 1979, 1998 and 1999), Peruvian Amazonia (1985), Papua New Guinea (scholarship from the Christensen Research Institute, Oxford, 1990) and Ecuador (Yanayacu Biological Station & Center of Creative Studies, 2007).

His main interests include behavioral ecology (reproductive systems of birds of the genus Acrocephalus), ecology of breeding birds (including neotropical ones), bird communities of marsh communities and avifaunistics.

In 2003 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland.
