Efekt cappuccino
Euro currency symbol
The effect of cappuccinos - unjustified increases in retail prices of small products or services that follow a change of local currency to euro. This affects mainly retail products purchased or low cost universal services.
Price rounding up is based on the mechanism of creating an attractive price, which rounds the price to the nearest total value. For example, a product that costs 1 brand after a change of currency costs 1 euro, which is almost twice as expensive.
The name of the effect came from the mechanism of the coffee price increase (here cappuccinos) in cafes in Italy, which before the change of currency cost about 1500 lire (equivalent 0.77 euros), and after the change of 1 euro, which gave about 30% price increase. In France this phenomenon is also called "baguette effect" and in Germany it is called "teuro" (expensive euro).
