Boniface (Cardinal S. Marco)

Boniface (d. 1130) - twelfth cardinal. Curriculum vitae

Its origin remains unknown. Hans Walter Klewitz put forward the assumption that he was a Roman, but, as he himself admitted, this hypothesis was based on a slight clue. He was nominated by Cardinal Paschalis II as the presbyter of S. Marco probably in 1100. It was first documented on 11 April 1111 with the conclusion of the so- The Ponte Mammolo Agreement between Paschalis II and Emperor Henry V. He then protested against this treaty at the Lateran Synagogue in March 1112. From November 17, 1115 to May 7, 1128, he signed papal privileges. He participated in the election of Gelazzi II on January 24, 1118. On March 1, 1119 he was a member of the Cardinal Committee in Rome, which approved the election of Calicot II, made by the few cardinals present at his death in Cluny. In 1125 the dispute between the prefect of Civita Castellana and the abbot S. Salvatore de Monte Acuto was resolved. In February-March 1127, his dispute with Grzegorz was documented by the SS. Apostoli. In February 1130 he stood on the side of Anaklet II and signed a letter of his followers to King Lotar III. He died probably after Anaklet II. Bibliography
