Avalanches Pass

Col des Avalanches (3445 m) is a mountain pass in the French Alps of the Écrins. It separates the Barre des Écrins (4102 m), the highest peak of this group, to the north of the Pic Coolidge (3774 m) in the south.

It lies in the ridge, defining the waterline between the river basins of Romanche (in the west) and Durance (in the east). This line runs north-south in general, leaving the Écrins massif on the Pic Lory, west of the Barre des Écrins, leaving the latter about 200 east and descending to the Col de Avalanches to cross the Le Fifre (3698 m above sea level) to reach Pic Coolidge.
