Aromatic waters (Latin Aquae aromaticae FP IV) - colorless, transparent or at most sparsely opalescent aqueous solutions of essential oils or other fragrances, with the aroma and taste typical of pulps. A general monograph of aromatic waters can be found in the Polish Pharmacopoeia IV t.2, whereas detailed monographs can be found in Polish Pharmacopoeia II (cinnamon water - Aqua Cinnamomi, rose water - Aqua Rosae) and Polish Pharmacopoeia III (bitter almond water - Aqua Amygdalarum amararum, Coriander water - Aqua Coriandri, coppery - Aqua Foeniculi and mint water - Aquae Menthae piperitae). Aromatic waters are nowadays rarely used as medicinal preparations, more often as corrigens. Nowadays, Polish mint and copious water are also used in Polish pharmacy. Aromatic waters found use in cosmetics, perfumery (eg rose water) and food industry. Aromatic waters used for purposes other than pharmaceuticals may be drawn up in accordance with other quality standards, e.g. manufacturer's own.
