AAK1

AAK1 (adaptive-associated protein kinase 1, also known as AP2-associated protein kinase 1) is a protein encoded in human AAK1. Alternative splicing variants have been described but their biological significance has not been established yet. Function Adaptor-related protein complex 2 (AP-2 complexes) function through receptor-mediated endocytosis, inducing clustering of clatry molecules by interacting with membrane-bound receptors, which is associated with the recruitment of additional encyrtemic agents. The gene encodes a protein that is a member of the SNF1 subfamily of serine-threonine kinases. It interacts with the subunit of the AP-2 complex, which affects the binding of AP-2 to collate signals transmitted by membrane bound receptors and subsequent receptor endocytes. The kinase activity is stimulated by the clathrin.
