Knockers - legendary figures from Cornish iron ore mines. Ghosts knocking on the sidewalk, pointing the ore to the miners.

According to the applications, these are the spirits of the Jews who took part in the crucifixion of Christ and for the punishment sent to the Cornish mines. The legend is related to the actual events - in the 11th and 12th century the Jews actually worked in the ore mines in Cornwall. The knights are naturally friendly to humans, and only the sign of the cross can upset them, so the miners try not to put them anywhere in the mines. The look of the Clowns was related to the stereotypical appearance attributed to the Jews - these ghosts had long, thin limbs and hooked noses. They lived in the darkest and most remote parts of the mines, where little food or tallow was left to gain their favor.
