Obšívanka

Limestone walls of Sokolie and the valley below Obšívanka

Obšívanka - a small valley in the Kryvian part of Malá Fatra in Slovakia. It cuts into the north-west slopes of the Sokolie massif. It is a small, but deeply carved valley of karst origin. The stream goes down to Varinka. Obšívanka is completely forested. In its south-east slopes, massive dolomite-limestone walls and cliffs of Sokolie massif rise. The dolphin has a specific microclimate, which makes it grow at low altitudes (well below its typical vertical range) high mountain plants. For example, at an altitude of 660 m. There are sapodilla stands and these are the lowest locations in the whole of Slovakia. In the valley there are also high-mountainous species of plants such as: bitter gentian, carpathian butterfly and primula.

Formerly, the valley was accessible to tourists. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful and valuable in the Mala Fatra valley. It led the hiking trail from Vrátna valley through Malý nocľahy to Terchova - Vyšné Kamence. Currently it ends at the Malé nocľahy crossroad, the section through Obšívanka was closed due to nature protection as well as due to the cost of maintaining the trail. The upper part of the valley is the strict protection zone "Tiesňavy".
