The creator of the Dęb Jagiełło legend was Jan Jerzy Karpiński. It caused thousands of tourists to be distracted from the center of Białowieża, and according to the author's intentions began to admire the beauty of the forest. With acorns dropped at the fall of the tree, the staff of the Mammal Research Institute: Stanisław Borowski and Jerzy Olszewski raised a few oaks, one of which is growing in the garden of Bialowieza Geobotanical Station, jokingly called "Jagiellonian."
