Goose Zośka

Rospuda Augustowska - on the left the Zoska peninsula

Goose Zoska - peninsula and elevation on the lake Rospuda Augustowska.

The peninsula is located in the middle of the north-eastern shore of the lake. It is located in the Nowinka commune near the administrative border of the city of Augustów about 300 m west of the road connecting Augustów and Suwałki.

The peninsula is high, sandy, overgrown with rare forest. The thicker pine forest of the Augustów Forest is surrounded by it. From the peninsula you can see the tides of Lake Rospuda - on the left: Praewa, Posada, on the right: Bagienko, Binduga, Leszczowa, Goła Zośka, opposite: Porzeczniak.

The origin of the Zoska name is unclear. According to one of the legends, the name comes from a girl who drowned in the lake, wanting to push her satin garland, which settled in aground. Another legend is that in 1812 the daughter of a clonenologist fell in love with a Russian officer and betrayed the Frenchmen for whom she had previously worked. After the girl was taken, the Frenchman hung her on the peninsula, and the wind ripped her clothes off. According to Knut Olof Falk, the Goose Zoska were called barren fishermen, which did not feed on fish, which could have been a to May's feast of Zofia.

At least from the interwar period the peninsula was a tourist camping site. At present there is a camp site and cottages. In 2014, a statue of a girl on the peninsula was announced, referring to stories from the Napoleonic era. The statue placed on the water depicting a naked woman was unveiled on June 27, 2015.
