Archangel's Gospels

Charter from the Gospels of the Archangel

Archangels gospels - parchment manuscript of 1092, made with the hands of two copyists. It contains a selection of fragments of the four Gospels, translated into Old Slavonic and Slavic languages, for each day of the year. Currently stored in the Russian State Library in Moscow.

The gulag consists of 178 cards. The language features indicate that it was probably written in southern Rus. Its modern history dates back to 1876, when it was found in Archangelsk by the merchant of the late S.T. Bolszakov and sent to Moscow. The first descriptions of the Gospels were published by Archimandrite Amphilochius (Описание Евангелия 1092 года, 1877) and I.I. (Древние памятники русского письма и языка X-XIV вв., 1882). The facsimile of the text was published in 1912, and in 1997 a scientifically-published critical edition appeared. Manuscripts are made with red initials and vignettes.

In 1997, the Archangel Gospels was included in the UNESCO World Memory List.
