Karol Szczurek

Karol Szczurek (born 1 October 1893 in Kostkowice, died 6 August 1981) is a Polish social activist in Cieszyn Silesia, a bibliophile, a co-worker.

He was the son of Paul, the tailor, and Eve of the Macuras. In 1906 he graduated from the folk school in Kostkowice, and then prepared for the profession of co-worker, and in 1912 he passed a quadadic exam in the workshop of Quis in Cieszyn. He did not serve in the military during the war because of a defect in sight. He ran his own co-operative workshop, and at the same time he developed a bibliophile passion, accompanying him from early youth. He created a library, which was gladly used by the inhabitants of Kostkovice and the surrounding area. He was interested in folk songs, collected texts and melodies, and then also proverbs and folk tales.

As an active local socialist, Florian Pohl, an Kostkowice teacher, founded the Youth Camp in 1919, functioning as the Cieszyn School of Motherhood. The rat was a treasure trove of this wheel for many years (until the outbreak of World War II). He also set up a Voluntary Fire Brigade in Kostkowice (he was a treasurer and chronicler) and sat on the Board of the Agricultural Club. He was an agent of the Krakow Insurance Company "Florianka". After 1945 he suspended the workshop and hired a "Samopomoc Chłopska" Cooperative Cooperative in Dębowiec as a lecturer. In 1960 he retired.

In the mid-70s, he wrote Moji's diary and his work. A walk with a guide to the village of Kostkowice, where he described each family home, with a special focus on history. In the broadcasts of the Polish Radio, he performed as a folk opera (in the 1950s), and in 1975 he was made a conductor of the Kostkowic Chronicle in Katowice. He has hosted many young scientists who prepared his master's theses for his ethnographic and library collections.

He died on August 6, 1981 and was buried at the Evangelical Cemetery in Debowiec. Bibliography
