Philip Murphy

Philip D. Murphy (born in 1957 in the Boston area) is an American ambassador in Germany.

He graduated from Harvard University and MBA at the Wharton School.

Prior to his official career, he worked for Goldman Sachs for 23 years. In the years 1993-1997 he was head of the Frankfurt office.

He was nominated as an ambassador in Germany by Barack Obama. The Senate confirmed the selection on 7 August 2009. 21 August 2011 with his family moved to Berlin.

As part of the disclosure of US diplomatic messages by WikiLeaks, unflattering descriptions of leading German politicians were published, including Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, signed by Ambassador Philip Murphy.
