Allied Council for Japan


Allied Command Council for Japan - a consultative body for the US-led Allied occupation forces in Japan.

The President of the Council was the commander of the American occupation forces. The Council dealt with issues of implementation of the terms of surrender, occupation and control over Japan. It was formed in December 1945, with members of the United States, the USSR, China and the United Kingdom (which also represented Australia, New Zealand and India). Headquarters - Tokyo. Following the entry into force of the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty, the United States unilaterally decided to cease the activities of the Council.
