Barbara Stępniewska-Holzer


Barbara Stępniewska-Holzer (born October 6, 1941 in Warsaw) - Polish historian. Curriculum vitae

A graduate of the Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw (1964), she defended her doctoral thesis in 1970 (Islam in the culture of the society of the Nigerian countries in the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries). She was habilitated in 1991 at the University of Wroclaw (Spreading of Islam in Western Sudan from the 12th to the 16th century). From 2002 professor at the University of Warsaw. She worked in the years 1970-1981 at the African Studies of the University of Warsaw, 1981-1993 Institute of Oriental Studies of the University of Warsaw. In the years 1993-2000, an employee of the University of Warsaw branch in Bialystok, later the University of Bialystok (in 1995-2000 the director of the Institute of History of the University of Bialystok). Since 1999 an employee of the Center for Research in Ancient Tradition of Central and Eastern Europe of the University of Warsaw, currently the Faculty of "Artes Liberales" of the University of Warsaw. He deals with the history of the nineteenth century.
