Born in 1954 in Zaporozhye. Before 1985, he lived in the USSR, where he worked in a learned profession, including he cooperated with Sofia Rotaru. From the beginning of his business activity his closest partner was Grigory Jankilewicz. In the 1990s, they traded goods imported to Russia (household appliances, electronics, clothing and others). In Tiumen, in Siberia, they began to trade with oil sector entrepreneurs who, through the scarcity of cash, were responsible for oil, which was then sold by Smołokowski and Jankilewicz in Europe.

The goods sold in Russia were imported from Poland, where he got married and received citizenship in 1993, taking the name of Sławomir. Together with Jakilewicz and two other businessmen, he founded the company J & amp; S, which dealt with oil supplies to Poland, and at the end of the 1990s its share in the Polish market was around 90%.

Due to the lack of prospects for the development of the Polish market, both of them founded Mercuria Energy Group in Switzerland in 2004.
