Distinction for the Naval Unit
Navy Unit Commendation - an American naval honor established on December 18, 1944 by Navy Secretary James Forrestal, assigned to ships, aircraft, squadrons, US Navy and Marine Corps units. Fighting against the enemy was distinguished by extraordinary heroism, but not enough to obtain the presidential distinction of the Presidential Unit Citation. The condition of awarding a distinction is the manner in which the service is rendered comparable to that required for the Silver Star award. Bibliography
