Correspondent bank - a credit institution providing payment and other services to a second credit institution. Payments through correspondents are made through mutual accounts (nostro and loro accounts) to which fixed lines may be attached.

This solution is primarily used internationally; In some countries it functions under the name of agency services.

The loro account is the account maintained by the correspondent for a foreign credit institution for which it is a nostro account.
