In 1966, Spencer finished third in the midfield category at the Central and Caribbean Games in San Juan. The semi-final duel with Cuban Andrés Molina ended with Spencer losing to points. In the fight for the bronze medal, Puerto Rico won the Rosario Rosario, winning with him for points.
