Port morski (obraz Lacroix of Marseille)
Seaport - a maritime oil painting painted in 1773 by the French painter Charles François Grenier de Lacroix called "Lacroix de Marseille". The painting is in the collection of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Picture description
The picture shows an imaginary seaport illuminated by the pastel glow of the rising sun. The image composition is dominated by a massive triumphal arch on the left and a tall ship on the right shown on a calm surface of water. In the foreground you can see a group of figures in fisherman's outfits whose grateful poses and sophisticated, almost dancelike gestures underline the effect of a certain theatricality, characteristic of painting in the second half of the 18th century.
