Michael Künzel


Michael Künzel (born May 24, 1973 in Plauen) is a German speed skater. Career

Michael Künzel's biggest success came in 4 December 1999 when he won the 1000 m World Cup. He has doubled on the podium of this cycle, one on the other and one on the third. The best result came in the 1999/2000 season when he finished sixth in the 1000m final. In the world championship, his best result was his seventh place in the 2000 sprint World Championships in Seoul. In the individual races he was fifth in the first race at 500 m, eleventh in the first gear at 1000 m, fifteenth in the second at 500 m and sixteenth in the second race at 1000 m. He also took pole position in the 500 m race during the Same year of the World Cup in Nagano. In 1998, he competed at the Nagano Olympic Games, taking eleven places in the 500 m race. Four years later, the Salt Lake City Games finished 19th in the 500 m and 24th in the doubles. He ended his career in 2003. Bibliography
