Rudy Rogiers
Rudy Rogiers (born February 17, 1961 in Wetteren) is a Belgian cyclist, silver medalist of the world championship. Career
Francis Vermaelen's biggest success came in 1981 when he won a silver medal in the race for amateurs at the World Cup in Prague. Only Andriej Wiediernikov from the USSR was ahead of him, and Switzerland's Gilbert Glaus was third. It was Rogier's only medal at the international event of that rank. In 1982 he also won races around Belgium and Paris-Roubaix in the amateur category. He made his debut in the Tour de France four times, scoring the best in 1983 when he finished 67th overall. He also tried his hand at the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España, but never reached the top 100 overall. He never participated in the Olympic Games. Bibliography
