Treasure of Zakrzowski
The hypothetical interior of the "Zakrzow grave"
Stony Treasure - three tombs called princes or tributes from the turn of the 3rd / 4th century. Found in the years 1886 and 1887 in the estate of Kornów in Zakrzów, district of Wroclaw.
History of the findThe first grave was found on April 1, 1886 in the sandstone huts employed by workers. The grave was completely destroyed, some of the equipment was stolen, the rest of the notice of finding was taken over by the owner of the sandstone Heinrich Korn, who handed it over to the researchers from the Museum of Silesian Silesian Museum. The second grave was discovered on 23 June 1887 and the third on 26 June 1887 in the same sandstone. This time the two tombs with the equipment were secured. Field research was conducted by custos of the Hermann Luchs Museum and the President of the Silesian Society of Wilhelm Grempler. They both began to work on the found items, and most of the chamber work, as well as the work on making copies of the equipment (including gold and silver items, were made of the same ore) was made by Grempler, as Luchs died.
In the tombs were found. jewelery made of gold and silver, Roman coins (they allowed to determine the age of burials at the turn of the 3rd / 4th century), dishes, among others. "millefiori" glass, bronze base and bowl of portable altar, spoon, stones, metal bucket. Human skeletons, except for teeth, were not found. It is believed that in each grave one person was buried: a man (in the tomb discovered in 1886), a woman and a boy. They belonged to the area inhabited by the Germanic tribes.
The grave equipment was located in the Museum of Silesian Antiquities and later in the Museum of Artistic Crafts in Wroclaw. Both the originals and their replicas were exhibited at numerous exhibitions in various German cities. Much of the treasure of Zakrzów was lost during the war. The remaining part is located in the Wroclaw Archaeological Museum and in the National Museum in Warsaw. The copies made by Grempler and all documentation of monuments by German archaeologists have also survived.
The Zakrzowski treasury was commemorated in the name of the street in Zakrzów: Zakrzowski Street. Bibliography
