Pillar - a vertical, supportive structure. The pillar can be massive (eg the pillar of the bridge), but there are also pillars of the form of columns. Such pillars, with circular or polygonal shape of their cross-sections, are called columns. A pillar that is partially hidden in the wall or standing next to it is a pilaster.
