King Roger (Poem)

King Roger (Rother King) - Epic was created in 1144-1156; included in the so-called. epics of migratory singers. There are also Orendel, Oswald, Salomon and Marcholt, Prince Ernest.

The author of this epistle whose passages are written in 5 manuscripts (12th-14th centuries) is probably a rabbi from the Rhineland. Having taken the cross of the Sicilian King Roger II, he created an epic based on the story of abducting a fiancé (Rother King is seeking the hand of the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor), interwoven with fabulous threads and farce. You can hardly see historical content in them. Bibliography
