Conventional war

Conventional war - a declared, direct armed conflict between organized armed forces of two or more states conducted using conventional weapons without the use of weapons of mass destruction. According to some definitions, the conventional war excludes the use of all weapons of mass destruction, according to others, excluding the use of nuclear weapons (but allows it to be deployed as a means of nuclear deterrence).

The United States Department of Defense defines conventional warfare as a "type of armed conflict between states, with a direct confrontation of the military forces of those states whose goal is to overthrow the enemy's armed forces, destroy its ability to wage war or acquire, maintain, or an opponent's policy ".
