The Corrections - a novel by Jonathan Franzena released in the US in 2001 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. The Polish edition was published by The Book World three years later.

Corrections gained notoriety and excellent reviews among literary experts, Franzena's book has been successful, not only in the US. The author received the prestigious National Book Award. Outline of the plot

After nearly fifty years as a wife and mother, Enid wants to finally enjoy the pleasures of life. Unfortunately, her husband, Alfred, struggles with progressive dementia, and children - three unhappy adults have long since faded from their family nest. Desperately seeking joy and true happiness, Enid is trying to realize his dream: to gather the whole family at home for the last Christmas.

Myrmex Indikos, pol. Indian ant - an alleged species of gigantic ants (according to Herodot's description, larger than foxes, but smaller than dogs). The earliest mention of these creatures is dated to the fifth century BC, and its author is Herodotus. According to her, these ants inhabited the deserts of Persia and India and extracted gold from their sands. Several such creatures were kept in the residence of the King of Persia. Gold was to be obtained by caravans made up of several camels in the heat of the day, when the ants were protected underground. You had to do it quickly, because the ants sensed the smell of people and went on the pursuit, and they were deadly dangerous.
