Rapska torta
Rapska torta - Croatian spiral cake, originating from the island of Rab. It consists of marzipan, spices and liqueur Maraschino. According to legend, the cake was first prepared in 1177 for Pope Alexander III, who came to the island to consecrate the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The traditional recipe was saved from being forgotten by nuns from the monastery of Saint Anthony and by the Benedictines. According to legend, nowadays the correct recipe is known only to a few women on the island.
The preparation of the dough is very laborious - in the correct version it takes 3 days. It is also expensive - it takes just a kilo of almonds, so former dessert could only be eaten by the richest citizens.
