Graduate in philosophy. He became involved in political activities as part of the Communist Revival. He was a full-time party activist, in 2002-2004 he managed her youth organization. In 2009, he moved to the Movement for the Left, with whom he co-founded the Lewica, Ecologia, Wolność (SEL) formation. In 2010 he became a member of the regional government of Apulia, Nichi Vendola entrusted him with the function of an assessor for youth, citizenship and political program.

In the 2013 election, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the 17th term. In 2014, he was appointed as the SEL national coordinator, and temporarily managed its parliamentary faction. In February 2017 he became the first leader of the newly formed formation Sinistra Italiana.
