Kathryn Irene Glascock


Kathryn Irene Glascock (born 1901, died 1923) - American poet. She was the daughter of Hugh Grundy Glascock and Etty (or Ella) Bodine Woods. In 1922 she graduated from Mount Holyoke College. Soon after she died of pneumonia. In 1923, the girls' parents funded a poetic award. From 1924, the competition has an intercollegiate character. Among the participants were James Agee, Frederick Buechner, Kenneth Koch, William Manchester, James Merrill, Sylvia Plath, Katha Pollit, Muriel Rukeyser and Gjertrud Schnackenberg, and among the jurors there were Robert Frost, Seamus Heaney, Audre Lorde, Robert Lowell, Howard Nemerov , Adrienne Rich, Richard Wilbur and William Carlos Williams.
