NEET (not in employment, education or training) - the name of the sociological phenomenon and the social group defined by it, including young people who are outside the sphere of employment and education, ie those who do not study, work or prepare for the profession . The NEET group includes both the unemployed and people leaving education prematurely, not seeking work and remaining out of choice or out of necessity. The percentage of people belonging to the NEET group varies from one country to another, reaching 50% of young people up to the age of 29. The average for the EU countries in 2012 was 13.2% (in the group of 15-24 years), and the average for the world fluctuated around 25%. In Poland, in the group of 15-24, 11.8% of the population belonged to this group, and in the group of 25-29 it was approx. 20%. There are no uniform arrangements as to which age group should be analyzed in terms of belonging to NEET - in the EU countries it is a group of 15-24 years, in Japan 15-34 years. The term appeared for the first time in Great Britain in 1999.
