Victory Day - National holiday in Malta on September 8. Locally known as il-Vitorja (Victory) and il-Bambina (Children of Mary). This holiday commemorates the following events:

On this day is celebrated the Catholic holiday of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Great festivities and processions are held in Xagħra, Naxxar, Senglea and Mellieha.

Traditionally, since 1878, the Regatta (Boat Race), which takes place in Grand Harbor, is also held on Victory Day.

The earliest mention of these creatures is dated to the fifth century BC, and its author is Herodotus.
