Manfred Dammeyer


Manfred Dammeyer (born 31 March 1939 in Porta Westfalica) is a German politician and educator, longtime Member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Landtag, Minister of Regional Government, 1998-2000 Chairman of the Committee of the Regions. Curriculum vitae

In 1958, he passed the matriculation exam. In 1963 he graduated in social sciences, and he did his doctorate in 1979. as director of the adult education center Volkshochschule Oberhausen. In the 90s he became a lecturer at the Universität-Gesamthochschule Duisburg. He joined the trade union ver.di.

Since 1957, a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany has sat in the county and national government. In 1975 he was the first to receive the mandate of the deputy governor of North Rhine-Westphalia. He sat for the regional parliament until 2005 (with a break between 2000 and 2001), and from 1998 to 2000 headed the SPD parliamentary parliament. From 1995 to 1998, in the regional government headed by Johannes Rau, he served as Minister for Federal and European Affairs.

Since 1994 he was a member of the Committee of the Regions. He served as Vice-President (1994-1998), President (1998-2000) and First Vice-President (2000-2002). He represented the institution in the European Convention.
