Warcisław (prince of obodrzycki)

Warcisław (born around 1120, died 1164) - Prince of Obodrzyt, son of Niklot.

After his father's death in 1160, together with his brother Przybysław, he took over the rule of the former Obodrzycki principality with the center in Werle, as a lennik of Henry the Lion. In 1163, Henry invaded the obodrzyckie territories under the pretext of anticipating alleged war preparations and besieged Warcisława in the city of Werle. Deprived of support, the prince gave up and was imprisoned in Braunschweig.

In 1164, Henry Lew formed a coalition with the Brandenburg margrave Albrecht Niedźwiedź and the Danish king Waldemar, starting a great war campaign against Przybysław. He then ordered to transport the imprisoned Warcisław to Malechów, where he was hanged.
