Report (Captain of the Dugout)

Report (Captain's Dugout) - oil painting painted by British painter Marjorie Violet Watherston in 1917, in the Imperial War Museum collection in London. Picture description

In a dark dugout, lit only by a candle on the bottle sitting on the left near the makeshift desk, the officer (in the mind of the captain) writes a note while smoking a pipe. The messenger stands in Brody's helmet and coat, waiting for the document. On the right side of the low chair, there is an officer with a newspaper on his knees who also smokes a pipe.

This very simple picture shows a typical "front situation" during the First World War. The author presented the soldiers of the British Expeditionary Corps - participants of the "Great War" in a very realistic way.
