The action takes place in the town of Brakel. The main character, she is a young unmarried girl who prays in the chapel to the statue of St. Anne, presented as a woman with a child (young Mary). The girl asks St. Anna to help her marry a young man who likes her. The boy (sacristan) behind the figure, tells a woman: "you will not get him."
