Czulent
Vegetable chulent חמין - cucumber tenderloin Potato lamb with lamb
Czulent (Yiddish טשאָלנט, czolnt) - a traditional Jewish food. Chulent is a very slow cooked (stewed) stew, made from kosher meat, with beans (often chickpeas), onions, barley or millet. Sometimes it also includes hard boiled eggs, dumplings. Spent on the Sabbath.
Since the Sabbath is not allowed to be cooked on fire, the cheeks are prepared before it starts, and then left in a warm oven to prepare for the night and ready for the Saturday dinner. In the past, in the small towns, a prepared chuck was worn to the local bakery to choke on a slowly cooled bread oven. A special place in the oven for storing warm food is called a whisker.
