Nicrophorus obscurus - a species of beetle from the omaric family.

Beetle with a length from 13.1 to 24 mm. The first segment of tentacles bulge is black, the next is tentative orange, and the penultimate one cut deeper and more violently on the outer edge than in N. guttula. The protuberant has a trapezoidal, with lateral recess in the front, with narrowly enlarged lateral margins and a broad basal margin. On each cover there are usually two transverse spots of orange, and the front black band does not pass to their epipleur. The surface of the covers is covered with black bristles. The front of the front hips is covered with bristles that are not shorter than on the shoulders. The bust and metepimeron are thickly covered with yellow hairs.

Insect carnivorous insect, but imagines are also found on human feces. He lives in the prairies.

Nearktyczny species. Spread from southern Canada and Saskatchewan through the north-central United States to Nebraska and North Colorado.
