At the end of World War II he was a Wehrmacht soldier. He then worked as a civil servant serving the American army. He was educated in military schools in Germany and the USA, he graduated, among others, NATO Defense College. He joined the Bundeswehr as a professional officer, he was commander of one of the military districts. He retired in the first general grade (Generalmajor).

In 1948 he founded the structures of the Free Democratic Party in Hesse. In 1954, for the first time he became a county councilor, a member of the Wetterau district council, he was also from 2009. In 1989-1994 he held the mandate of the third term deputy. He was a member of the liberal faction, he was the vice-chairman of the Budget Control Committee.
