It was the duty of the clients to come to the patron's house in their festive clothes to give him a greeting. They received food from him, and the patron supported them with money and invited them to dinner at his residence. In return, customers provided him with a variety of information, voted for him, if he ran for office, disseminated good feedback to him. Among the clients were prominent poets and philosophers who needed funds to deal with creativity. An exemplary customer was Horace, who was obliged to serve the aristocrat to the patron: he received a property from him that gave him life for the rest of his life.
