The Oath (wiersz Williama Vicarsa Lawrance’a)

The Oath - a poem by the American lawyer, prose writer and poet William Vicars Lawrance, published in 1889 by Riverside Press in the volume The Story of Judeth: a Tale of Bethany, with Poems of Home, Heart, and Hearth. The work consists of ten parts. "Swear it!" he said; "swear on this hand Over this heart that is throbbing beneath! Swear it ! Yes, swear, that the oath may stand, Nor perish away in the passing breath. There ! it is done ! Bound soul and heart, — Not to the evil, for no black art The struggling soul shall stain, but good, Good for thee and for me. Why should Thy cheek blanch white, as if a fear Pressed on thy footsteps darkly near? Bibliography
