At the age of 8, he began to learn to play the piano. In 1943 he graduated from a music school in Baku. He got to the National Conservatory in Azerbaijan. In 1946 he studied at the Moscow State Conservatory in the K.K.Igunnowa class, and took vocal lessons with Antonina Nieżdanowa. In 1952 he graduated from school and returned to Baku, where he performed as a pianist and vocalist-soloist at the Opera and Ballet Theater. From 1953, he taught at the Conservatory in Azerbaijan. People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1967), awarded with Lenin's Jubilee Medal (1970), Order of Friendship of Nations (1980), honorary diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR and Moldavian SSR.
